An old upright that nobody plays is hard to give away, and it is too heavy to move on your own. For piano disposal in Toronto, try a sale or a free giveaway first, ask any group directly, and book a removal only for the piano that is still there. Junk 'Of' Urs hauls that one.

Piano pricing depends on the type, stairs, and access. The written price is confirmed from photos before anything is loaded. Send photos for a quote at https://junkofurs.com/quote. This page is for a homeowner, a condo owner, or a family downsizing in Toronto, York, or Durham. A downtown condo and an older semi in the east end are the same kind of visit once the path to the truck is clear.

If the piano is one piece in a whole-house sort, the room-by-room plan is the downsizing guide at junkofurs.com/blog/downsizing-large-toronto-home-cleanout. Household furniture pickup is the furniture removal service at junkofurs.com/services/furniture-removal. Piano removal in Toronto sits with junk removal in Toronto at junkofurs.com/junk-removal/toronto.

Try a sale or a free giveaway first

Before you pay to have it hauled, post it. Use clear photos of the whole piano, the brand plate if you can read it, and the room it sits in. In the listing, say "you pick up". Many used uprights do not find a taker. A free offer can still get no replies. That is common, and it does not mean the photos were wrong.

If you hope a charity, a school, a music program, or another group will take it, ask that group what they accept and whether they pick up before you book. This page does not name any group, and it does not state their rules. We do not deliver a piano to a recipient, and we do not guarantee a donation. If nobody collects it, old piano removal is the haul, not a move and not a repair.

Why a piano is heavy work

An upright is commonly several hundred pounds. A general range is often 300 to 500+ pounds. Treat that as a range, not as the weight of your piano. The case is tall, the weight sits high, and the shape is awkward on stairs and in a tight turn. Do not try to move it alone. A piano can tip, mark a wall, or drop on a stair.

Feet and casters catch on a threshold. The finish and the floors both take the damage. How a crew protects the walk from the piano to the door is in the floor guide at junkofurs.com/blog/protect-floors-before-junk-removal. Before the visit, clear shoes, rugs, and anything that can slide.

What a removal visit looks like

Photos come first, so the crew knows the piano, the floor, and the way out. On the visit, the access check covers stairs, the width of the entry, and, in a condo, the elevator booking. Ask the building what it requires. We do not set those rules. We work inside the window the building gives. A typical upright visit is a crew of two, a dolly and straps, floor protection on the path, the load out, and the haul.

The piano leaves on that visit. We do not tune a piano, restore it, or move it to a new home. Piano disposal is a haul away. If you need the piano in another room or another address, that is a piano move, and it is not this service.

A grand piano is a different visit. We quote it from photos, and we confirm on the visit whether we can take it. There is no published flat price. The same is true of other oversize pieces in that class, such as a hot tub: the price comes from the photos, not from a menu.

Where a piano goes after pickup

Usable parts and metal are recycled where that is possible. The rest goes to the proper City of Toronto drop-off. This page does not name a diversion rate. Where a load goes after it leaves the house is the short guide at junkofurs.com/blog/what-happens-to-junk-after-pickup.

What piano removal costs in Toronto

Household prices on this page are all-in, with HST included. They are the residential rate card. The same card is on the pricing page at junkofurs.com/pricing, and the load tiers use the same wording as the garage cleanout cost guide at junkofurs.com/blog/garage-cleanout-cost-gta. Junk is priced by the item or by the load, never by the hour.

Piano pricing depends on the type, stairs, and access. Photos of the piano and the way out set the written price before we load. Send them for a quote at https://junkofurs.com/quote.

If other household items are leaving with the piano, the rest of the pile uses the load card. A single item is $99. An eighth of a load is about 2 cubic yards and is $179. A quarter load is about 4 cubic yards and is $299. A half load is about 7.5 cubic yards and is $469. A three-quarter load is about 11 cubic yards and is $629. A full load is about 15 cubic yards and is $739, which is one truck. Each extra full load on the same job is $650. The written quote says how many loads it covers. If it takes fewer loads, you pay less.

A grand piano, and an oversize job in the same class as a hot tub, is quoted from photos. Piano pricing depends on the type, stairs, and access.

How to get an accurate quote

Send at least two photos of the piano, from different sides, with a doorway in the frame for scale. Add a photo of the route out: the stairs, the landings, and the doorways. Note the floor it sits on, whether that floor is a basement or above the entry, and any elevator the building requires. A condo note should say who books the elevator.

Send that set for a free quote at https://junkofurs.com/quote. The written price comes back before the crew loads. The crew serves Toronto, York, and Durham, including downtown condos and older semis in the east end. Put the address with the photos so the visit is booked in that area. Great projects start with a clean slate.

Frequently asked questions

Will the City pick up a piano at the curb?
Check the City of Toronto oversized item rules before you put a piano at the curb. This page does not state those rules, and it does not say whether the City will take a piano. Read the City page for your address first. In York or Durham, check that municipality the same way.
Can you take a piano from a basement or from upstairs?
Yes, when the path is one we can carry safely. Piano pricing depends on the type, stairs, and access. Send a photo of the stairs and the doorways with the quote at https://junkofurs.com/quote so the written price includes the carry. Do not try to move the piano yourself before the crew arrives.
Do you take grand pianos?
Grand pianos are quoted from photos. Piano pricing depends on the type, stairs, and access. We confirm on the visit whether we can take it. We do not tune a piano, restore it, or move it to a new home. Send photos for a quote at https://junkofurs.com/quote.

Do I need to be home?
Someone who can approve what leaves should be there, or you can leave written instructions and access notes with the quote. Condos often need a person for the door and the elevator. Say so when you send photos if you cannot be home. The short page is at junkofurs.com/questions/do-i-need-to-be-home.
