November 1 in a Toronto home has a familiar look. A deflated inflatable is still on the lawn. A string of lights half works. A skeleton is cracked. Foam tombstones are bent, and a box of fake cobwebs is damp. Some of that goes back into storage. A lot of it should not.
This is for a house, a townhouse, or a condo in Toronto, York, or Durham. Sort once, pass on what still works, and set the rest aside. If the pile is bigger than the bin, one small pickup clears it. Junk 'Of' Urs hauls household junk in those three areas. Junk removal in Toronto is at junkofurs.com/junk-removal/toronto. Sort in one pass
Sort while the pieces are still in the yard or the hallway. Three piles are enough: keep, give away, and toss.
Keep what works, what you will use next year, and what you have space for. A light set that still lights, a prop that still stands, and a small box that fits the shelf can stay. If you already know you will not put it out again, it is not a keep. A full garage or locker does not need another season of props on top.
Give away what works but you are done with it. Offer it to a neighbour, a friend, a school, or a community group. A daylight photo helps, with a note about the fan, the stakes, or the spare bulbs. If nobody takes it, it joins the leftover pile.
Toss what is broken, torn, mouldy, rusted, or waterlogged. A cracked skeleton, a torn inflatable, soft foam, and lights that only half work are junk, not next year's display. Dry anything you plan to store. Damp foam and fabric closed in a bin only smell worse. A mouldy piece does not go back on a shelf.
Coil the lights loosely and tie them so they do not knot. Take a photo of what you kept, so next year you can see what is in the box without opening every one.
What goes where in Toronto
Toronto treats Halloween leftovers differently by item. String lights, inflatables with a fan or a motor, batteries in an animatronic, hard plastic, and soft foam are not all the same. This page does not list bin rules, size limits, depot names, or collection days. Check the City of Toronto's Waste Wizard, and the current waste rules on toronto.ca, for each item before you set it out.
Two habits are safe while you check. Take the batteries out of props before they sit in a bag or a bin. Do not put anything with a cord or a battery in the blue bin until you have checked the City's current rules for that item. If the pile is a mix of plastic, foam, and cords, a pickup can take it. You do not have to sort every piece yourself before the porch is clear.
When a pickup makes sense
A pickup makes sense when the leftovers are bigger than a normal set-out. Big inflatables, a tall prop, or a wooden yard display are awkward to fold and carry. So is a garage corner, or a condo locker corner, full of years of Halloween decor. The same visit can take other household junk you are already clearing before the holidays. One load is simpler than a separate trip for the decorations and another for the rest.
Most Halloween piles on their own land on the small end. A cracked prop and a bag of lights are not a full truck. Years of display, plus other items you want gone, can be more. Photos of the whole pile decide which.
If you are mainly clearing storage so the car fits again, the garage cost guide is at junkofurs.com/blog/garage-cleanout-cost-gta. This page stays on the props, the lights, and the foam.
What a small Halloween pile costs
These figures are the household load card for a Junk 'Of' Urs haul with easy access: the yard, a garage, a basement, the ground floor, or an elevator. Every price is all-in, with HST included. The final flat price is confirmed from photos before anything is loaded. Junk is priced by the item or by the load, never by the hour. There is no separate decor price. A short cost answer is at junkofurs.com/questions/how-much-does-junk-removal-cost.
The minimum job is $99. That covers one small item. An eighth of a load is $179. A quarter load is $299. A half load is $469. A three-quarter load is $629. A full load, about one truck, is $739.
Most Halloween piles alone will be on the small end. If the pile takes less space than the photos suggested, you pay less. If it is larger, the crew shows you the difference before loading the extra. Send a wide photo, a closer photo of anything bulky, and a photo of the path. Note the yard, garage, basement, or condo locker, and whether there are stairs or an elevator.
The crew carries items from where they sit and handles disposal. Usable items are donated or recycled where that is reasonable. That is an effort on the load, not a set share of the pile. The crew serves Toronto, York, and Durham. Put the address with the photos.
