Question

How do I prepare for junk removal in the GTA?

Label what stays, open a walk a dolly can use from the haul pile to the door, and send three pictures: the whole pile, the heaviest piece, and that walk. The pile can stay where it already sits. Wet paint, fuel, propane tanks, and household chemicals come out of the pile first, because those stay on the property.

Put painter's tape or a sticky note on every piece that must remain, such as a dresser that is moving with you, a lamp, or cartons already sealed for a new address. The haul can be a broken bookcase, a stained armchair, bagged clothes, or a stack of empty gift boxes, and none of it has to be dragged outside beforehand. Empty dresser drawers and lift loose hangers out of a closet so nothing dumps in a hallway. When a table leg unscrews by hand, take it off and tape the screws into a sandwich bag on the tabletop.

Shift a shoe rack, a baby gate, and floor lamps so the walk is straight. In a house, include a picture of the driveway, laneway, or curb spot where the truck can stop. In a condo, write down the elevator the property manager has booked and the visitor stall in the note on the form. A walk-up stair with a tight landing is a different carry from a padded tower car, and the third picture is what shows that. You do not have to cover the hallway yourself.

Set wet paint, fuel jugs, propane tanks, solvents, and other household chemicals aside, or take them to a municipal depot before the day. Cupboards still screwed to a wall stay up. A gas range, or any appliance that is still plumbed or hard-wired, waits until a qualified trade disconnects it. Plumbing, electrical, and gas disconnects are not part of this visit. Unplugged appliances, a mattress, cut branches, and renovation scraps that are already loose on the floor can sit in the haul. If one object is questionable, keep it out of the main pile and point at it in a picture.

Common questions

Do I have to stage everything at the curb?

The carry starts in the room, the locker, or the storage cage where the items already are. A curb stack is welcome when you prefer that instead. Show the starting spot so the walk is included in the plan.

What should I pull out before pickup day?

Wet paint, fuel, propane, solvents, and household chemicals. Leave finishes that are still fastened to the building. A connected gas range waits on a qualified trade. Keep a taped group of items that stay so those pieces are not carried out by mistake.

Which three pictures are worth sending?

The form accepts up to three pictures. Spend them on a wide view of the haul, a close view of the awkward piece, and the route out, whether that is a stair landing, an elevator lobby, or the curb spot for the truck.
